Abbott School / Castine Historical Society

The Abbott School, now home to the Castine Historical Society. This seasie town is one of the oldest European settlements in North America and is liste on the National Register of Historic Places. “Steeped in history, architecturally preserved, rich in culture, adorned by elms and surrounded by the sea”, boasts the town’s website. Rightfully so. Antique homes, magnificent summer “cottages”, churches, forts, and more line Castine’s streets. Maine Maritime Academy’s training vessels: the State of Maine, the schooner Bowdoin, and the tug Pentagoet can be seen at the town pier (although access is restricted).
