Make Way for Ducklings!

You may be wondering how Mrs Mallard and her crew are related to Maine. Well, Robert McCloskey had a summer home on Scott Island (off the coast of Little Deer Isle) and wrote three books centered around the Blue Hill Peninsula: One Morning in Maine, Blueberries for Sal, and Burt Dow, Deep-Water Man. Make Way for Ducklings is his most famous (although here on the Blue Hill Peninsula his Maine titles steal the show). The ducklings are frequently dressed in seasonal attire or to mark special occasions or social protests (they’ve been seen sporting “pussy hats” and “Black Lives Matter” t-shirts as well as local sports team paraphernalia).
